Cal Poly junior middle blocker Jennifer Keddy was named the Big West Conference women’s volleyball Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the league’s first repeat winner of the award this season.
This past week, Keddy led the Mustangs (9-11, 4-3) to a five-set win over then-first-place UC Santa Barbara with 21 kills and 17 digs, both then-career highs, and then a win over Cal State Northridge, in which she had 22 kills.
Three Mustangs earn weekly awards
Jake Romanelli, a fullback for the Cal Poly football team, was named the player of the week in the Great West Conference by College Sports Madness.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior from Templeton ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in the Mustangs’ 31-27 comeback win over defending conference champion Southern Utah.
Romanelli, who has 550 yards and six TDs for the season, can tie a Cal Poly record for consecutive 100-yard games with his fifth straight at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Dakota. Antonio Warren set that record in 1995 and 1996.
Additionally, Mustangs defensive end Kyle Murphy (who had three sacks and two forced fumbles in the win) and tackle Sullivan Grosz (one sack, three tackles for loss) were honored by College Football Performance Awards as the Great West’s Week 7 selections.
