Cal Poly men's soccer team loses to Cal State Northridge

Despite coming off a five-goal victory over UC Riverside Sunday, the Cal Poly men’s soccer team (5-5-2, 2-2 Big West) couldn’t put one past Cal State Northridge goalkeeper Michael Albalos as the Mustangs were shut out for the sixth time this season in a 2-0 loss Tuesday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

The Matadors (6-5-1, 3-1) snapped an eight-game losing streak versus the Mustangs and surpassed Cal Poly in the Big West standings to move into a tie for first with UC Irvine. The Mustangs are now in a tie for third with UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis.

The Mustangs fell behind 1-0 when midfielder Thomas Ramos scored off an assist from midfielder Rafael Garcia in the seventh minute.

Cal State Northridge padded its lead when Brian Behrad picked up a loose ball and beat Cal Poly’s last defender to put another shot past Mustangs goalie Patrick McClain in the 66th minute.

Cal Poly forward Chris Gaschen tallied two of Cal Poly’s four shots on goal, and McClain registered four saves.
