The Cal Poly volleyball team fell to Santa Clara 3-1 in its first game at the La Quinta Inn and Suites Invite in Orem, Utah on Friday.
The Mustangs found themselves in a 2-0 hole after falling 25-22, 25-23 to the Broncos. Cal Poly came back to nab a 25-20 win in the third set but lost the fourth 25-22.
Kristina Graven led the Mustangs (3-2) with 18 kills, while Jennifer Keddy had14.
Defensively, Graven and Allison Lee both had 12 digs, and Lauren Law had 11.
Shannon Garrett had a team-high 26 assists.

Cal Poly’s stout defense shut out yet another opponent, but the Mustangs couldn’t find the offense to come out with a win.
They outshot the Lobos 16-3, matching their shutout performance against UNLV where they also outshot the Rebels 16-3.Yet, despite having three shots on goal, they couldn’t get the ball past Victor Rodriguez. He had three saves in the draw.
For Cal Poly (1-0-1), Patrick McLain had one save.

Freshman Sara Lancaster scored her third goal of the season to help the Mustangs earn their third win of the year.
Despite being outshot by the Spartans 14-9, Brooke Gauvin and the Mustangs were able to hold on for the shutout. Gauvin made two saves for the Mustangs (3-2).
Offensively, Lancaster scored a goal in the 80th minute, while Cici Kobinski scored the Mustangs only other goal in the 35th minute.
Both Kacey Held and Leslie Barkmann both had assists for Cal Poly.
