Former Cal Poly star Maggie Vessey easily moved into the semifinals of the women’s 800 meters at the track and field world championships.
It’s the second straight time Vessey has made the semifinals in the 800 at the world championships, having also done so in her world championship debut in Berlin in 2009.
Vessey finished second in her preliminary heat today in 2 minutes, 1.32 seconds, only 0.21 second behind Britain’s Jennifer Meadows.
The top four finishers in each of today’s five preliminary heats advanced to Friday’s semifinals. The final is Saturday.
