The Cal Poly women’s soccer team got a late goal from freshman Sara Lancaster during its season opener and held on to defeat Cincinnati 2-0 on Friday.
Lancaster scored her first goal as a Mustang in the 87th minute, breaking a 1-1 tie. It gave the Mustangs the lead after Julie McKee scored Cal Poly’s first goal of the year, in the 33rd minute.
Cincinnati (0-1) outshot the Mustangs 17-6, but Cal Poly had five shots on goal, while the Bearcats had four.
In goal, Brooke Gauvin had seven saves for the Mustangs.
