Cal Poly’s women’s golf team finished in third place at the Big West Conference Championships on Tuesday with a three-round total of 895 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club.
UC Davis defended its championship from last year, finishing with a 3-over 867 total, while second-place Long Beach State carded an 885.Alice Kim of UC Davis was the medalist, finishing with a 9-under 207.
Cal Poly’s top finisher was freshman Taylor Yoshitake, who placed seventh at 223. Alicia Weber finished one stroke behind Yoshitake for eighth place, and Morgan Thomas tied for 10th at 226.
Cal Poly’s team score lowered the 54-hole school record by 15 strokes.
Cuesta softball team swept by Ventura
The Cuesta College softball team fell in both games in a doubleheader against Western State Conference rival Ventura College.
Liz Isaak gave up both runs in the first inning in the 2-1 first-game loss for the Cougars (12-25, 7-8 WSC-North Division). She allowed five hits, walked three batters and fanned eight.
Former Atascadero High star Ashley Dooley was 2 for 3, and Kelly Lockwood drove in Eliza Renner on an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Karen Berna started the second game for Cuesta and gave up seven hits, two earned runs and had four strikeouts en route to a 4-1 loss.
Lockwood was 2 for 3 with a double and scored the only run on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
