The Cal Poly men’s golf team was in eighth place among 15 teams Monday after 36 holes at the UC Riverside-hosted Braveheart Classic at Oak Valley Golf Course.
The Mustangs shot a 305 in the morning and then 298 in the afternoon for a 603 total, 21 strokes off co-leaders UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary’s.
Geoff Gonzalez had the best score for Cal Poly with rounds of 77 and 67, tied for sixth place, eight strokes behind the lead in the 84-golfer field.The final round will be this morning.

The Cal Poly women’s club volleyball team won the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation championship this past weekend, going 9-0 over a three-day tournament.
The Cal Poly club, which is coached by San Luis Obispo High coach Manny Carter, brought its record to 66-3 overall following the tournament.
The Cal Poly club opened the women’s Division I gold-division bracket by defeating club opponents from Michigan, Ohio State and Texas before topping a club from Marquette in the final, 25-20, 25-21.
Setter Brooke Anglin was named the tournament MVP, while libero Kaitlyn Sulenski and middle blocker Lauren Fallat earned all-tournament first-team honors.
