The Cal Poly baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the Big West Conference by the league’s nine head coaches when the preseason poll was released Tuesday.
The Mustangs received 50 balloting points.
Cal State Fullerton, with 81 points, got all nine first-place votes. The Titans, who finished last year ranked No. 11 in the nation by Baseball America, have won at least a share of eight of the past 12 Big West titles.
UC Irvine, which finished No. 22 in last year’s final Baseball America national rankings, tied for second in the poll with UC Riverside at 65 points.

Long Beach State (47), UC Santa Barbara (36), Pacific (26), UC Davis (22) and Cal State Northridge (13) rounded out the poll.Cal Poly returns five position starters and nine pitchers from last year’s injury-riddled fifth-place squad that finished 23-32 thanks to a 13-5 mark in May.
