Cal Poly guard Ashlee Burns came off the bench to lead the Mustangs women’s basketball team with 17 points, four other Mustangs scored in double figures, and Cal Poly opened Big West Conference play with an 83-72 road win over Long Beach State on Sunday.
Burns was 6 of 13 from the floor and sank a team-high three 3-pointers for the Mustangs (5-7, 1-0 Big West). Kayla Griffin had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Caroline Reeves scored 15 points, Abby Bloetscher had 12, and the Mustangs’ leading scorer, Rachel Clancy, had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Long Beach State (2-13, 0-2 Big West) was led by Brandi Henton’s 23 points and four 3-pointers.
