Whitney Sisler came off the bench to score two goals, and the Cal Poly women’s soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Long Island late Saturday in the final game of the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi Tournament hosted by Hawaii.
Sisler, a senior forward, entered the scoreless game midway through the first half and within moments put the Mustangs (2-1) ahead by scoring on a deflected corner kick in the 33rd minute. Long Island (1-1) tied the score only 34 seconds later, but 14 minutes into the second half, Sisler slipped the game winner through the lower left corner on an assist from Monica Hemenez.
Junior goalkeeper Johanna Pfeiffer made her first career start for Cal Poly, earning the win while making four saves.
The Mustangs host defending Western Athletic Conference champion San Jose State in their home opener Friday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
