Area Roundup: Cal Poly soccer schedule includes home game with North Carolina

The Cal Poly women’s soccer team announced its 2010 schedule Friday, including what is likely the highest-profile match the Mustangs have ever had — a Sept. 10 tilt with 20-time NCAA champion North Carolina.

The Mustangs will open the regular season in Hawaii’s tournament Aug. 27 against the host school.

“Each year we try to put together a competitive nonconference schedule that will prepare us for our Big West matches,” Cal Poly coach Alex Crozier said in a news release. “Having a team with North Carolina’s tradition not only gives us an opportunity to play against top competition but provides our fans with an exciting evening of soccer.”

The Mustangs won the Big West Conference regular season title in 2009 before falling in the conference tournament final to UC Santa Barbara in penalty kicks.
