Cal Poly freshman Pace Johnson is in third place after two rounds of play at the Big West Conference Men’s Golf Championship on Monday at Mission Viejo Country Club.
Johnson carded a 4-under 68 that had him tied for the lead after the morning round, then he followed that up with a 74 in the afternoon for a 2-under 142 total. He is the only Cal Poly golfer in the top 25. Freshman Chris Satterwhite was in 30th place at 10-over 154, and junior Daniel Miller was in 35th at 11-over 155.
The Mustangs are in seventh place as a team at 35-over 611 but had been in second after the morning round.
John Chin of UC Irvine was on top of the leaderboard at 6-under 138, helping the Anteaters to a 15-stroke lead in the team score at even-par 576.
Pacific is in second at 591.
The final round is today.
BASEBALLThompson earns Big West honorCal Poly junior shortstop J.J. Thompson was named the Big West Conference Field Player of the Week on Monday.
Thompson went 7 for 12 (.583) with two doubles, two triples, a homer, five RBI and five runs during Cal Poly’s series against Long Beach State last weekend, the Mustangs first weekend series win of the year.
Cal Poly faces Fresno State tonight in a nonconference road game.
WOMEN’S TENNISMustangs add Belgian playerCal Poly announced Monday that Florence Lehane from St. Veronique High in Belgium has signed a letter of intent.
Lehane is the 65th-ranked female player in Belgium, according to a statement released by Cal Poly.
“We are very excited to have Florence joining us next season as her athleticism, explosive game and outstanding volleys will be an asset to us both in singles and doubles play,” Mustangs women’s tennis coach Hugh Bream said in a release.
