Kline, France break Cal Poly swimming records

Cal Poly’s Peter Kline and Kylie France set school records in the 400 individual medley Sunday in the Long Beach Grand Prix at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.

Kline finished sixth in the men’s 400 IM with a time of 3 minutes, 51.57 seconds, breaking the old mark of 3:52.88, which he set last year. The race was won by Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps in 3:38.42.

France also bested a record she set when she won the B final in the women’s 400 IM in 4:21.87, beating the mark of 4:23.30 she set last year. Katie Hoff, who won silver and bronze in Beijing, won the A race in 4:04.39 to break the meet record of 4:05.86.

The Mustangs men’s 800 freestyle relay team of Chase Nick, Aaron McKinnon, David LaFlamme and Kline earned a first-place finish in a time of 6:44.16, its best time of the season.

The Cal Poly women’s 800 freestyle relay team took second place with a season-best time of 7:33.32. The team is made up of Karin Schleicher, Katrina Anderson, Chrissy Thomas and Camille Duckett.
