College Roundup: Cal Poly wrestlers beat UC Davis

Filip Novachkov won by pin, and seniors Micah Ferguson and Chase Pami earned decision victories as the Cal Poly wrestling team claimed a 34-7 dual meet win over UC Davis in its regular season finale on Friday at Mott Gym.

The Mustangs (8-4, 5-2 Pac-10) won eight of 10 matches in their final tuneup for the Pac-10 Championships on Feb. 26.

Also winning for Cal Poly were Nick Fisher, Steven Vasquez, Ryan DesRoches, Kelan Bragg and Ryan Smith.


Riverside 20, Cuesta 4

The Cougars (1-2) gave up five runs in the first inning and seven in the fourth, as the Tigers collected 21 hits in the game. Four different Riverside players had three hits apiece.

Mitchell Prophet led Cuesta at the plate, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Brett Hartman added a 2-for-3, two-RBI performance in defeat. Both had home runs in the loss.

For Cuesta, which committed four errors, Mike Nielebeck suffered the loss, giving up six hits and five earned runs in 11⁄3 innings.
