College Wrestling: Cal Poly falls slightly in polls

After splitting a pair of duals last week, including a 23-13 loss to No. 9 Boise State, the Cal Poly wrestling team dipped slightly in national polls this week.

The Mustangs (6-3, 3-1 Pac-10) remained at No. 14 according to Win Magazine but fell one spot to No. 16 in the InterMat tourna-ment rankings and polls. The National Wrestling Coaches Association ranked Cal Poly at No. 16 for the second week in a row.

Win Magazine’s tournament power index put Cal Poly at No. 28, an improvement of three spots.

Four Mustangs remained ranked in their respective weight classes, including Boris Novachkov, who is ranked as high as fourth at 133 pounds.

Filip Novachkov is ranked as high as seventh at 141 while Chase Pami is rated as high as eighth at 157.

Ryan DesRoches dropped a spot to No 24 at 174.

The Mustangs will host Arizona State in a Pac-10 dual Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in Mott Gym.
