Cal Poly wrestling team defeats Stanford

Filip Novachkov won by fall, and Chase Pami scored a major decision victory to lead the No. 14 Cal Poly wrestling team to a 28-11 Pac-10 dual victory over Stanford on Friday night in Mott Gym.

Novachkov (18-4), ranked No. 4 at 141 pounds, pinned Bret Baumbach in one minute while Pami (20-4) beat Mike Kent 14-5 at 157.

Cal Poly (6-2, 3-0) won four other matches including a Cardinal (8-6, 0-1) forfeit at 285 pounds to remain unbeaten in Pac-10 duals.

Stanford’s Nick Amuch-astegui (22-4) won a 6-1 decision over redshirt freshman Travis Rasmussen at 165, and No. 11 Zack Giesen (23-3) scored a 19-3 technical fall over Cal Poly sophmore Kelan Bragg at 184.

Also winning for Cal Poly were Boris Novachkov (19-1), ranked fourth at 133, Nick Fisher at 149, Ryan DesRoches at 174 and Ryan Smith at 197.

The Mustangs will host No. 12 Boise State at 2 p.m. Sunday.
