Santiago leads Cal Poly women's basketball team to win over CSUB

Kristina Santiago scored a season-high 28 points Sunday night to lead the Cal Poly women’s basketball team to an 89-80 win over Cal State Bakersfield at Mott Gym in the Courtyard by Marriott San Luis Obispo Holiday Beach Classic.

Santiago, a junior forward, was 11 of 17 from the floor and made 6 of 10 free-throw attempts. The Righetti High grad added six rebounds in the win.

Rachel Clancy had 23 points and 15 rebounds for the Mustangs, who had 24 assists as a team and shot 34 of 58 from the floor overall.

Becky Tratter added a 6-for-6, 13-point performance for Cal Poly (3-2), which bounced back from a 56-47 loss to Illinois on Saturday.

The victory, which saw Cal Poly avenge a 76-66 loss to Cal State Bakersfield last season, marked the Mustangs’ second-highest scoring output of the year.

Katie Williams led the Roadrunners with team highs of 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists, but was just 8 of 23 from the floor. Tiffany Belt added 18 points off the bench for Cal State Bakersfield, which connected on just 12-of-37 attempts from 3-point range.
