The Cal Poly men’s golf team finished day one of the Del Walker Classic in seventh place with a team score of 358 at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.
The Mustangs trail first-place Colorado State by 16 strokes heading into the final round. Oregon is second, two shots behind the Rams on Thursday.
Junior Bryan Pierce leads Cal Poly in 15th overall, shooting a 2-under on the 6,578-yard, par-70 course. Pierce shot a 1-under 69 in the first round and is 1 under after nine holes in the second round, which was suspended because of darkness.
After a two-over 72 in round one, freshman Pace Johnson moved from 45th to 18th overall on the strength of a three-under back nine to start his second round.
