Baseball: Former Poly players Schafer, Fien honored by pro teams

Former Cal Poly outfielder Logan Schafer and reliever Casey Fien were honored by their respective minor league teams on Thursday.

Schafer, who hit .313 with six home runs and 58 RBI during his stint with the Single-A Brevard County Manatees has was awarded the Robin Yount Performance Award which recognizes him as the Milwaukee Brewers’ miner league player of the year.

Schafer was also named to the league’s all-star and postseason all-star teams.

Fien was named Pitcher of the Year by the Toledo Mudhens of the Triple-A International League. He finished the year with a 3.41 ERA and 14 saves, striking out 66 batters in 58 innings.

He was called up twice by the Detroit Tigers, making nine total appearances with a 7.94 ERA.
