Cal Poly men's soccer team wins Big West Conference opener

The Cal Poly men’s soccer team opened the Big West Conference season with a 1-0 win over CSUN on Thursday evening at Matador Field.

Senior midfielder Chase Minter scored on a 12th-minute bicycle kick that proved to be the difference in the match. It was Minter’s third goal of the year.

Goalkeeper Wade Hamilton had two saves for Cal Poly (6-2-1, 1-0-0), which earned its first victory at CSUN since 2010. It was Hamilton’s fourth shutout of the season.

The Mustangs complete their Big West-opening road trip against UC Irvine on Saturday at 7 p.m.
