Former Cal Poly standout linebacker Cameron Ontko will continue his playing career this fall after landing on the practice roster of the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.
The Stampeders had already played nine of their 18 regular season games when Ontko arrived for a tryout this past Saturday. He replaced running back Keith Toston, who was released from the practice squad.
Ontko was a first-team all-Big Sky Conference selection for the Mustangs last year. He had back-to-back 108-tackle seasons as a junior and senior and finished his three-year career with 258 tackles.
The 23-year-old Ontko went undrafted last spring and was invited to attend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie minicamp before being released.
