The Cal Poly women’s soccer team was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the Big West Conference, according to a poll of conference coaches released Wednesday.
The Mustangs received three first-place votes and 72 points overall. Long Beach State was picked second with 70 points, and Cal State Fullerton was third with 68 points. Cal State Fullerton, the 2014 Big West tournament champion, also earned three first-place votes.
UC Irvine was chosen fourth, followed by CSUN, UC Santa Barbara, Hawaii, UC Riverside and UC Davis.
The Mustangs return six all-conference performers from last year’s team that finished with a 10-9-1 record.
Cal Poly is scheduled to play an intrasquad scrimmage at 1 p.m. Saturday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Admission is free.
