In Paupa New Guinea, nearly 7,000 miles away from the Central Coast, former Cal Poly women's basketball player Kristen Ale is preparing to represent American Samoa in the Pacific Games this weekend.
The former Mustangs guard will lace up for the American Samoa national women’s basketball team at the 15th Pacific Games, a smaller version of the Olympics, on Saturday. The junior guard even got a chance to tour nearby Samoa and scrimmage with former USC and Pittsburgh Steelers great Troy Polamalu, according to her Twitter account.
The team will open against Solomon Islands on Sunday before facing New Caledonia on Monday and then Fiji on Tuesday. Hawaii senior Destiny King and former Long Beach State guard Tipesa Moorer are also on the team.
Ale earned an all-Big West honorable mention in 2014-15 when she started every game as a senior for the Mustangs and averaged 9.4 points per game.
