A five-run second inning by CSUN doomed the Cal Poly softball team in a 7-5 loss Sunday in Northridge.
Cal Poly (17-20, 0-3 Big West Conference) scored twice in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 7-5 with two outs and had runner at first and second when the rally ended on Ashley Tornio’s pop out.
Taylor Glover went 3 for 4 with two RBI for CSUN (28-10, 3-0).
Emily Ceccacci went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, Amanda Sandoval was 2 for 4 with a run and Courtney Tyler had a double, an RBI and a run for Cal Poly. Breana West had an RBI double and walked twice.
Sierra Hyland (12-13) took the loss, tossing a complete game for the Mustangs, allowing seven runs — five earned — on eight hits while striking out five.
The Mustangs host UC Santa Barbara for a three-game series beginning Friday at Bob Janssen Field.
