COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Cal Poly wrestler Kastl out at NCAA Championship

Cal Poly wrestler Dominic Kastl was eliminated from the NCAA Championships after losing 3-2 to Nathan Jackson of Indiana in the second round of wrestlebacks Friday.

After three matches, the 174-pounder finished with a 1-2 record in the tournament held in St. Louis, Mo.

Kastl wraps up his senior season with a 17-8 record and ends his collegiate career 60-23 overall.

The Mustangs swept both games of a doubleheader against visiting Buffalo.

In the first game, Sierra Hyland hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to give the Mustangs a 4-0 advantage.

Breana West later hit a solo home run as Cal Poly managed eight runs off of seven hits. Hyland struck out five and gave up two hits all game in six innings of action on the mound to pick up her 11th win of the season.

In the second game, the Mustangs busted the scoring open early, notching four runs in the first inning. Hyland doubled home Courtney Tyler and later scored off a two-run single by West. From there the defense and pitching held the visiting Bulls to two runs off of six hits to get the Mustangs (16-16) another win.
