Cal Poly baseball team earns series split with win over Sacramento State

Cal Poly first baseman Brian Mundell returned from a hamstring injury and homered twice in Cal Poly’s 6-4 win over Sacramento State on Sunday at Baggett Stadium.

Mundell, who had been sidelined for three weeks, hit two-run homers in the first and fifth innings and finished 2 for 3 with four RBI and two runs.

Justin Calomeni (1-2) earned the win, pitching six shutout innings in relief of starter Michael Gomez, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Mark Mathias went 2 for 3 and scored twice, and Zack Zehner and Jordan Ellis hit doubles for Cal Poly (6-11).

Jake Stassi took the loss in relief for Sacramento State (10-8).

Cal Poly hosts No. 9 USC (17-3) for a three game series at Baggett Stadium beginning Friday.
