College Roundup: Cal Poly softball swept in doubleheader

The Cal Poly softball team lost both of its games in a doubleheader with IUPUI by the same score, 5-2, Thursday at home to open the ShareSLO Mustang Classic.

In the first game, the Mustangs rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning after being down 5-0, but scored only two runs. Ashley Tornio went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI, but Cal Poly mustered just three other hits.

In the second game, the Mustangs (8-13) kept it close, tying the Jaguars 2-2 before giving up three runs in the seventh. Stephanie Heyward scored a run and drove in another, and Sierra Hyland scored as well.

Cuesta baseball shuts out Ventura

The Cuesta baseball team shut out Ventura, 3-0, at home.

Brendan Jenkins pitched a complete game, allowing one hit and three walks to improve to 4-1 on the season for the Cougars (7-9, 5-2 Western State Conference).

Dustin Miller tripled and scored, and TK McWhertor went 2 for 4 with a run.
