College Roundup: Cal Poly women's golf team finishes third

The Cal Poly women’s golf team finished third, shooting a 319 on the final day, for a total of 937 at the par-72 Silver Creek Valley Country Club in Santa Clara on Tuesday. Cal Poly’s Jamie Binns shot a 231 to finish tied for fifth.

UC Riverside’s Brittani Ferraro beat out Santa Clara’s Annie Freman by one stroke, posting a three- round total of 5-over 221 to lead the Highlanders to the team win with 927 strokes. The Mustangs finished one stroke behind second- place Santa Clara as Sophie Bergland finished ninth with a 234.

Binns’ first-round total of 73 was second only to Ferraros’ 72 for the tournament.

Cal Poly men finish 15th in tourney

Justin De Los Santos shot a 1-under 71 for his final round at the Bill Cullum Invitaional at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, posting a 6-under 210 over three rounds to place sixth and lead the Cal Poly to a 15th-place finish with 885 strokes.

Arizona State’s Jon Rahm was the individual winner, shooting a 203 and breaking his 2012 tournament record of 204. USC won the team title with an 833, breaking Pacific’s tournament record of 843.

In addition to a 70 and 69 from De Los Santos, the Mustangs’ Camden Price shot a best of 72, finishing tied for 35 at 219.

Cuesta falls in women’s soccer

Moorpark scored in the first 10 minutes of each half to earn a 2-1 women’s soccer win over Cuesta College.

The Raiders’ Melani Gonzales had both goals, first in the sixth minute and again in the 55th. Cuesta (6-7) got on the board when Karolina Rendon found Liv Montion in the 75th minute.
