Summer Collegiate Baseball Roundup: San Luis Obispo Blues bounce back to beat Southern California Catch

The San Luis Obispo Blues racked up 15 hits while allowing just three in a 6-2 summer collegiate baseball game victory over the Southern California Catch on Friday at SLO Stadium.

Jeff Moberg hit a solo home run and drove in another run, Collin Ferguson and Tyler Floyd both went 3 for 4, and Ferguson, Sheldon Neuse and Ryan Long each recorded an RBI for the Blues (37-11, 26-10 California Collegiate League), who avenged Thursday night’s 18-6 loss to the Catch.

On the mound, Dominic Taccolini struck out eight over six innings against five hits, three walks and a run.

After the Catch pulled within one, 3-2, in the top of the seventh, the Blues answered with three runs in the bottom frame, starting with Moberg’s homer. Ferguson followed with a double that scored Zack Zehner, and Neuse singled home Ferguson.

Neuse took the mound in the ninth and the Big 12 Freshman of the Year from Oklahoma struck out the side.

First inning, pitching lead Indians to win

The North County Indians jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning to back a solid outing on the mound from Scott Romuk en route to a 5-1 victory over the California Wahoos in Templeton.

Romuk scattered five hits and one walk over seven innings, striking out five and allowing the lone run in the fourth. Louie Carlos pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Corbin Meikle led the offense for the Indians (28-8-1), hitting a double and triple while also driving in two runs and scoring once. Leadoff hitter Sinjin Todd was 3 for 4, and Davey Casciola and Mac Stuart both recorded an RBI.
