College Roundup: Cal Poly golfers finish 12th in Florida

The Cal Poly men’s golf team spent Tuesday on the TPC Sawgrass course in Ponte Vedra, Fla., where its placed 12th out of 16 teams at the Sea Best Invitational. 

North Florida and Liberty both shot 22-over 864 as a team after three rounds and tied for first on the 6,977-yard, par-72 course. 

Liberty edged North Florida in the end because it shot 297 in the third round, beating North Florida’s 304.

The tournament medalists were Greg Yates of Texas A&M and Austin Padova of North Florida, who scored 216.

The Mustangs finished at 932, and nd the top Cal Poly golfer was Camden Price, who shot 222.     

Cuesta softball sweeps Reedley

The Cuesta College softball team swept Reedley 4-3 and 10-2 in a home doubleheader.

Gabby Massar hit an RBI single to score Monica Garcia to score the Cougars’ first run of the opener and the first of a three-run fourth inning for Cuesta (4-0). 

Stephanie Ca responded for Reedley in the fifth with a two-run home run.

Cuesta scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth when Delaney Furn tripled to bring in Nikki Luiz. 

Nichole Johnson (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the first game. 

In game two, Cuesta scored all 10 runs in the third inning. Luiz started the inning with a triple and scored for the Cougars after Erin Penning’s single. 

Monica Garcia and Erin Penning both had doubles.  

Jeananne Ruck (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the nightcap, which was stopped after 4½ innings because of the 10-run rule.
