After dropping a series loss to Cal State Fullerton last weekend, the Cal Poly baseball team responded with an 8-5 win over Long Beach State on the road Friday.
Cal Poly raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, after a two-run single from David Armendariz, a two-run double from Brian Mundell and a hit batsman with the bases loaded.
Long Beach State responded with a three-run second, but Cal Poly (28-11, 8-5 Big West) used a two-run double from Tommy Pluschkell and an RBI single from Peter Van Gansen to make it 8-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
Mundell went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI, Jimmy Allen went 2 for 5 with a run, and both Armendariz and Pluschkell went 1 for 4 with two RBI.

Joey Wagman picked up his ninth win of the season, pitching six innings and allowing six hits, five runs, four walks and striking out five.
Reed Reilly got the save, pitching three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Cuesta 15, Oxnard 7
The Cougars closed their season with an 11-game winning streak, defeating Oxnard after posting a combined 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Cougars (23-15, 12-8 Western State Conference) started off quick, scoring three runs in the first, and never looked back. They added one run in the second and third innings, and then went on to score five runs in the fifth and sixth.
Mac Stuart went 3 for 4 with three runs, Andrew Montanari went 2 for 4 with three RBI, and Nicolas Rosso went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.
Andrew Nelson pitched five innings to earn the win. He gave up four runs on seven hits and had two walks and a strikeout.
