San Luis Obispo Blues clinch tie for league title

Gandy Stubblefield struck out 11 and allowed only one unearned run through six-plus innings, and former Cuesta College and Mission Prep standout Alex Detz homered to lead five San Luis Obispo Blues batters with multiple hits in a 12-1 summer collegiate baseball victory over Team Vegas at SLO Stadium on Wednesday.

The Blues (33-13, 20-9 California Collegiate League) clinched at least a share of their second straight CCL title, and with a victory over Team Vegas tonight or a Santa Barbara Foresters loss in any of the next three games, San Luis Obispo can win its first outright league title and become the first team other than the Foresters to win it outright since 2002, Blues manager Chal Fanning said.

Stubblefield gave up three hits and walked only two through 6 2⁄3 innings, and Chad Girodo and John Tiedemann combined for 2 1⁄3 scoreless innings of relief.

Detz was 2 for 2 with an RBI, two runs and three walks. Tanner Witt was 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI, Austin Grisham was 3 for 4 with two RBI, Taylor Anderson was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Patrick Quintanilla was 2 for 4 with two runs.
