San Luis Obispo Blues sweep doubleheader against Union Pacific Capitalists

The San Luis Obispo Blues won both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against the Union Pacific Capitalists, a non-California Collegiate League opponent at SLO Stadium.

Both games were seven-inning contests. The Blues won 7-2 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap.

Robert Ay, an incoming freshman at Cal Poly, threw five innings in the opener for the Blues (31-14) and allowed no earned runs while striking out three Capitalists batters.

Blues slugger Ryan Sluder (Oklahoma State) had two hits, drove in one run and scored twice, pushing his season batting average to .321. Blues and Cal Poly Mustangs catcher Brett Barbier also had a hit and an RBI in the seven-inning game.

Barbier had another hit in the second game, one of seven by the Blues.

Blues pitchers Bryan Sammons (four innings pitched), Nigel Ward (two innings) and Adam Atkins combined to allow only two hits on seven strikeouts.

The third and final game of the series will be played at SLO Stadium at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
