Former Cal Poly star Maggie Vessey ran the second-fastest women's 800-meter time Friday in the semifinals at the USATF Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, advancing to the Sunday final where she will be looking for another world championship team berth.
Vessey and Chanelle Price basically finished the second of the two semifinal heats together as they were both officially timed in 2 minutes, 0.04 seconds with Price given the win by finishing just three-thousandths of a second ahead of Vessey— 2:00.042 to 2:00.045.
Earlier Friday, former Mustang Ben Bruce was 19th in the preliminaries of the 3,000 steeplechase in 8:55.74 and did not advance to the final.
On Saturday, two more former Cal Poly stars will be in action as 2008 Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Brown Trafton will be competing in the women's discus and Sharon Day-Monroe contests the first day of the two-day women's heptathlon.
