SLO Blues survive late rally to win

The San Luis Obispo Blues nearly blew a six-run lead but Patrick Quintanilla came through with the game-winning RBI single to bring home Austin Grisham for his third run of the night and lift the Blues to an 11-10 win over the Conejo Oaks on Monday at SLO Stadium in a summer collegiate baseball game.

The Blues (23-11, 12-7 California Collegiate League) led 10-4 before the Oaks exploded for six runs on six hits in the ninth inning off of three San Luis Obispo pitchers.

Grisham led off the ninth inning with a bunt single and went to second on a sacrifice. Quintanilla’s game-winning RBI was his only hit of the game.

Grisham went 2 for 3 with two RBI, Tanner Donnels was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Nick Flair had a two-run home run in the second inning to help the Blues get back into the game after falling behind 3-0.

San Luis Obispo responded with three runs in the third, four runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh for the 10-4 advantage.

Daniel Mengden got the win in relief for the Blues. Starter Gandy Stubblefield pitched five innings with four strikeouts and gave up one walk.


Scott Shields went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI to help the San Luis Obispo Rattlers (25-12) to their sixth win in a row.

Michael Kathan was 2 for 6 with an RBI, Marc Flores was 2 for 5 with an RBI and Charlie Sharrer finished also finished with two hits.
