Kory Delange struck out 10 and walked one in six innings, and Brandon Carr’s RBI single in the eighth inning gave the San Luis Obispo Blues a much-needed insurance run for the 3-2 summer collegiate baseball win over the Berco-vich Gold on Thursday night at SLO Stadium.
Carr’s second hit gave the Blues (21-10) a 3-1 lead before the Gold scored what turned out to be a meaningless run in the top of the ninth in San Luis Obispo’s first game of the 12th Annual Rawlings California Cup.
San Luis Obispo’s Cody Dufrene and Matt Shortall each finished with an RBI against Bercovich’s Mike Botelho, who pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts.
Chad Girodo had six strikeouts in two innings of relief for the Blues, and Daniel Mengden struck out one batter in the ninth to earn the save.
