MISSOULA, Mont. — Looking for its third win over Montana in program history, the Cal Poly football team came up short on a sunny, warm afternoon Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, losing 37-23 today.
At the end of the third quarter, the Mustangs trailed 29-23 after leading 17-14 at halftime and 10-7 after the first period.
A 1-yard run by Dan Moore and an ensuing 2-point conversion catch by Kavario Middleton put 13th-ranked Montana (1-1) up by the final score with 8:30 remaining in regulation.
Cal Poly (0-2) could desperately use a win next week in its home opener at Alex G. Spanos Stadium against South Dakota State to keep its FCS playoff hopes intact.
