Cal Poly grappler Ryan DesRoches took second place while two other Mustangs came in fifth at the Reno Tournament of Champions wrestling meet on Sunday.
DesRoches, seeded second at 165 pounds, moved to 22-2 on the year — adding one more pinfall to increase his season total to 12 before dropping a 10-2 decision to top-seeded Shane Onufer of Wyoming in the finals.
Seeded fifth at 157 pounds, Barrett Abel went as far as the semifinals before winning by forfeit in the fifth-place match, and Ryan Smith — seeded fourth at 197 — also bowed out in the semifinals before earning fifth with a 10-0 major decision in the wrestlebacks.
Seven other Mustangs competed in the one-day tournament, but Cal Poly did not enter wrestlers at 133 and 141 as brothers Filip and Boris Novachkov did not make the trip.
