Rattlers' six-game win streak ends

Davey Schultz went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run, Marc Damon struck out five and was charged with just two unearned runs in five innings but the San Luis Obispo Rattlers had their six-game winning streak snapped by a 5-1 California Collegiate League loss to the Vegas Baseball Club at SLO Stadium on Sunday.

Joe Etcheverry, who was 1 for 4 with an RBI, gave the Rattlers (16-18, 7-17 CCL) the first lead of the game, driving in Schultz from third with a single to left in the bottom of the third inning. Vegas (11-17, 9-15 CCL) was shut out through the first five innings, but struck for two unearned runs in the sixth when Damon was relieved after giving up a single and issuing back-to-back walks to load the bases.

The Rattlers got the lead runner as he tried to steal home, but an error by second baseman Nigel Morton allowed two runs to score, and San Luis Obispo reliever Chad Caraccioli gave up three more runs in the seventh.

Morton was 1 for 3 at the plate as a trio of Vegas pitchers limited the Rattlers to just five singles.
