Rattlers tie score on steal of home, go on to beat Pilots

Nigel Morton scored the game-tying run on a double steal in the eighth inning, incoming Cal Poly catcher Chris Hoo singled in the winning run a batter later, and the San Luis Obispo Rattlers came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over the Santa Maria Pilots on Monday in Santa Maria.

The Rattlers (12-17) trailed 2-1 when Morton walked to open the eighth. He advanced to third on Joe Etcheverry’s single before scoring on the double steal.

Mike Massari got the win, allowing one hit in two innings of scoreless relief.

Cal Poly junior-to-be Mason Radeke made his second appearance of the summer after missing the final three months of the college baseball season with an arm injury. He struck out one in an inning of hitless relief.

San Luis Obispo designated hitter Gabe Loweree doubled and later scored the Rattlers first run in the second inning to tie the game.

Chad Caraccioli got the start for the Rattlers, allowing one run on five hits in five innings. He struck out one and walked two but didn’t figure in the decision.
