Summer Collegiate Baseball: Gavin's homer sparks Blues

Dylan Gavin’s three-run home run provided an early spark and the San Luis Obispo Blues went on to defeat the MLB Academy Barons 10-4 in a summer collegiate baseball game at SLO Stadium.

The Barons (11-6, 8-6 California Collegiate League) grabbed an early 2-0 lead but Gavin’s third-inning blast gave the Blues (11-7, 10-5 CCL) the lead for good.

Gavin finished 2 for 3 with five RBI and two runs scored. Matt Juengel was 3 for 4 for the Blues with a double and two runs scored, and Cory Burleson scored twice.

Santa Barbara Foresters 5, SLO Rattlers 3The Rattlers gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning, were no-hit through five innings and never recovered in dropping the CCL baseball game at Santa Barbara.

Matt Anderson was 2 for 3 for the Rattlers (8-12, 2-11 CCL) and drove in two runs. Joe Etcheverry was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Santa Barbara starting pitcher Carson Smith went five innings to get the win, striking out 11 Rattlers and allowing no hits.
