Rattlers drop opener of road series with Vegas

The San Luis Obispo Rattlers dropped the first of a three-game California Collegiate League road series at the Vegas Ball Club, falling 6-3 on Saturday.

Second baseman Bobby Buckner was the only Rattler with multiple hits, batting 2 for 4. Designated hitter Tommy White, who went 1 for 4 with a triple, had the only RBI for the Rattlers (4-3).

Former San Luis Obispo High standout and current Cuesta College player Davey Schultz was 1 for 4 and scored twice.

Jeremy Gonzalez took the loss for the Rattlers after giving up four runs on five hits and five walks in 3 1⁄3 innings.

Las Vegas starter Kevin Guasaman earned the win, allowing two runs and striking out six in five innings.

Bryce Harper, the No. 1 overall pick in last week’s Major League Baseball Draft, is on the Vegas roster but did not play in the game.

The series continues with a doubleheader today.

Santa Barbara Foresters 9, San Luis Obispo Blues 6The Foresters rallied for five runs in the ninth inning to earn their second straight victory at SLO Stadium.

Outfielder A.J. Robinson went 3 for 5 and scored three runs for the Blues (3-3, 2-2 CCL).

Catcher Cory Burleson drove in two runs for the Blues.
