Snapping a three-game losing streak and salvaging the chance to win the overall season series with the rival Santa Maria Indians, the San Luis Obispo Blues took the third of a three-game set with the Indians, winning 11-4 Thursday night at Elks Field in Santa Maria.
The Indians won the first two games this week, but behind a 3-for-5 effort by Mike Petello, the Blues (7-4) turned the tables to get their first California Collegiate League victory.
Petello, a freshman from Arizona State, scored twice in the game, once on a solo home run.
“He got going tonight,” Blues manager Chal Fanning said. “He really did. He’s been working very, very hard and finally put it all together tonight in (batting practice) and it showed in the game.”
Ed Wakefield started the game on the mound for the Blues, but Jason Linn got the win in relief. Former San Luis Obispo High player Chase Krukow pitched the final three innings for the save.
“Chase has gotten better every outing from when he started a couple weeks ago,” Fanning said. “It’s nice to see him progress as well.”
