SLO athletes take top spots in SLO Triathlon men’s, women’s divisions

The 36th annual SLO Triathlon was held at Sinsheimer Park and SLO Swim Center Sunday. Thd short course triathlon consists of a half-mile swim, 15-mile bike and 3.1-mile run. Two San Luis Obispo athletes biked, swam and ran their way to wins in the men’s and women’s divisions of Sunday’s SLO Triathlon.

San Luis Obispo resident Stepan Paul, 30, took top honors in the men’s division with a time of 1:09:25 on the short course. Jonathan Harmse, also 30-years-old and also from San Luis Obispo, finished second with a time of 1:09:52 while Bakersfield’s Aaron Hebeler, 30, finished third at 1:11:09, according to unofficial results.

Robin Oswald-Schwartz, 40, finished first in the women’s division with a time of 1:18:01. Oswald-Schwartz outpaced her much younger competitors, Kaori Funahashi (25) and Roxanne Smith (23), who finished with times of 1:21:27 and 1:23:39, respectively.

The short course triathlon consisted of a half-mile swim at the SLO swim center, a 15-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. About 650 athletes competed in the race.
