Olympic spectacle overshadowed by outrageous cost

Looking at the Olympics brings mixed emotions. It is very exciting to watch young athletes competing with all their hearts, making friends and representing their countries with pride, but it is set in a country full of poverty — a country that cannot afford the outrageous cost. There are very expensive empty arenas all over the world that were used only for a few weeks.

I heard a wonderful suggestion a few weeks ago: Wouldn’t it be great to choose the same country to host the Summer Olympics every four years? Greece, where the original Olympics was held, would be a natural choice. The rest of the world could come together to help put it on. It seems like the right thing to do.

There must be a place for the Winter Olympics, also.
