Our political system is so overwhelmed by moneyed interests that legislators in Washington are forced to spend almost half of their time raising funds for the next election, making them beholden to extremely wealthy interests. The public doesn’t like it and most of them don’t, either.

Bill Ostrander, running for Congress in the 24th District, provides us with a chance to give Washington a new member of Congress who is absolutely committed to reforming the current rules of the system. None of the problems affecting average Americans will be fixed until we somehow control the money permeating the system. Of course, Mr. Ostrander can’t do it alone. But members of Congress themselves are frustrated with the “dialing for dollars” game. Sending Ostrander to Congress will help catalyze the process of reversing the Citizens United decision and turning off unlimited election funding by the wealthy and multinational corporations.

The messes will only be fixed when our representatives are truly representing their constituents instead of big donors. Bill Ostrander is bright, hardworking and incredibly dedicated to this cause. Help make our government work for us by electing him to Congress.

Carol Rowsemitt, Atascadero
