I have an ingenious idea.
Why don’t we fill the existing available retail and office space prior to building new construction (“Hotel, homes part of new plan for ‘gateway’ to downtown SLO,” Nov. 24)? The proposed “gateway” development for San Luis Obispo at Santa Rosa and Monterey streets will be countered by the blight at Foothill Plaza and the loss of Forever 21. Or is the City Council more interested in the development fees that come with new projects than fixing what we already have?
