On Nov. 27, the Perspective in The Tribune was a reprint from The New York Times castigating Pfizer for buying Allergan and moving Pfizer’s headquarters to Ireland to avoid taxes (“Pfizer’s big breakthrough: tax avoidance in the U.S.”). On that same Friday, The Wall Street Journal printed an editorial explaining how Ian Read, Pfizer’s CEO, had spent two years unsuccessfully trying to get Congress to change its antiquated business tax laws before moving to Ireland (“Hillary Clinton’s Pfizer Follies,” Nov. 27).
Mr. Read expects to save $0.23 on every dollar earned, which he can plow back into the business and the U.S. economy. Now wouldn’t you like to see the U.S. economy grow rather than the U.S. government?
