I completely agree with Richard Placak (Letters, June 12), who decried the loss of liberty from the endless plastic bag and Styrofoam container bans imposed by our tyrannical government.
For me, I fume over lost liberty every time I get into my car and am forced by the government to stop at one of their red lights! (Is it a coincidence that red is also the international color of socialists?)
And don’t even get me started on the absurdly misnamed “free”ways. From the high cost to the government-dictated onramps, exits and speed limits, freeways are anything but free, my friends.
Seriously, when we agree to live together in a society, we agree on and implement (through government) certain rules to, for example, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity (sound familiar?).

Protecting the environment certainly meets these requirements. The right-wing freedom screamers love to cloak themselves in liberty, but this is a disguise to conceal their deep-seated selfishness to do whatever they please within the well-established structure of a society that we all pay for and maintain.
For me, that is tyranny.
