With GOP, ‘I can’t’

Sharliss Ferris was spot on (Letters, June 20) when she oh-so-cleverly observed that the last four letters in the name Republican create the phrase, “I can.”

Based on recent history and the Republican Party’s many accomplishments, I’m guessing this means: “I can” start wars based on lies, “I can” ruin the economy, “I can” restrict voting rights, “I can” promote unbridled greed for billionaires, “I can” deny science and wreck the environment, “I can” denigrate minorities, “I can” limit civil rights based on religion, and “I can” ensure any nut in the country can access any gun they want.

Perhaps for the sake of the world, it would be safer if they changed their name to “Republican’t.”
